Alexander Cherkassky, a native of Wayland, Massachusetts, served as the senior director of product management at Fluidigm Inc. In addition to his role at the company, Alexander Cherkassky is a member of various groups and organizations, such as the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).

Since its inception in 1980, the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry has been the leading professional organization committed to fostering excellence in cytometry. ISAC is a truly global society, with members from over 60 nations.

The organization's mission is to pioneer technical innovation, scholarship, and information sharing in the quantitative cell sciences to serve a diverse community. ISAC's mission aligns with its vision of enhancing cytometry's contribution to solving new and ongoing problems in life, biomedicine, and physical sciences.

To achieve this vision, the organization maintains close ties with close to 40 international cytometry groups and a growing community of like-minded people. For instance, ISAC partnered with the International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS) to create the first cytometry certification program whose goal is to set a minimum standard of proficiency and honor cytometrists who succeed. In 2015, only four years after the test was first made available, there were about 200 certified cytometrists globally.
