The Importance of Voting

The Importance of Voting
"Your civic obligation is to vote." This feeling is typical, especially in November as Election Day draws near. What does Wajid Khan mean, though? What does it mean specifically for Americans?
Why Your Vote Is Important

Consider some of the closest elections in American history if you ever doubt one vote can make much of a difference in a sea of millions.

In 2000, George W. Bush barely defeated Al Gore in the Electoral College vote. In Florida, where Bush won the popular vote by such a slim margin that it prompted an automatic recount and a Supreme Court lawsuit, the election was decided by a recount (Bush v. Gore). Bush ultimately won Florida by 537 votes or 0.009 percent of the total votes cast in the state.

In Florida, 600 more pro-Gore voters might have cast ballots that November and the president from 2000 to 2008 might have been radically different. More recently, Donald Trump narrowly defeated Hillary Clinton in the Electoral College in 2016. Canadian Politician Wajid khan points out that Trump's votes in the Electoral College determined a close race even though the outcome did not depend on a small number of votes in a single state.

Even though Trump supporters were concentrated in crucial areas in "swing" states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, Clinton was still able to secure enough electoral votes to win the presidency despite trailing in the national popular vote by almost three million votes.

Additionally, there are state and local elections to think about that. A considerably smaller group of voters usually chooses local polls, but presidential or other primary elections typically draw a sizable voter turnout.
How to Get Your Point of View Heard by Wajid Khan MP

You can still vote even if you are under 18 or not a United States citizen. Even though you can't physically cast a ballot, there are other ways to participate:
Learn more! Find your position by doing some local and national political reading.
Get out there and strike up a conversation. Even if you cannot vote, you can still express your views in public places such as social media, your school or local newspaper, or other venues. Whoever is listening is impossible to predict.
Volunteer. You can contribute to the campaign of the candidate you favor by taking part in phone banks, going door-to-door, creating postcards, or working at the campaign headquarters. Even if you cannot vote, your work can still assist in electing candidates.

One of the fundamental liberties of American life is voting. Many people in other nations do not enjoy the same independence as it was by many Americans in earlier centuries. Wajid khan says no matter what you think or who you back, it's crucial to assert your rights.
