The largest retail vegetable market in Pune, India, is Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai. The location chosen for the study and analysis of the urban fabric is bounded to the north by Laxmi Road, to the west by Bajirao Road, to the east by Shivaji Maharaj Road, and to the south by Chavan Road, with Mahatma Phule Mandai serving as the dominant landmark. The location is in the heart of Pune, and various old Wadas from the 1700s to 1900s can be found there. The study area is equipped with practically all of the necessary amenities.

Therefore, a variety of interventions are being considered to enhance the neighborhood's identity in the spirit of "redefining this area." In contrast to what malls or retail stores offer, pedestrian walkways cutting across the zones can be created to provide the distinct feel of a traditional Indian bazaar, which is essentially intensely crowded due to its squeezing within small spaces. When it comes to the products that are sold, which are primarily those needed for Puja and numerous other cultural activities, the streets close to Mandai have a distinct character. This area's rich cultural legacy can be embraced and celebrated by redefining these streets. The impending metro station will offer excellent opportunities, whether it is built on the ground or on stilts.
