Motion Capture - Adobe Character Animator
To reflect motion and animation, I opened an existing puppet in Adobe Character Animator and replaced the current artwork with my own similar-sized artwork. By changing the aesthetic elements to reflect my own design, I developed a new piece and learned more about the motion capture process.
I began by familiarizing myself with the mechanics of the Adobe Character Animator program to understand the ins and outs. Once I became comfortable enough to use it, I accessed the example puppet "Chad" file and used it going forward.
To make my motion capture animation, I wanted to take inspiration from previous work I've made. I used a comic I created during my time at The Daily Texan, which I later edited to reflect motion and animation, as a reference for this piece.
I then went into Adobe Illustrator and edited the source file, implementing my own art and drawing new assets as I go on to make the character my own.
I then created a background image for the animation to build a better world view overall.
For this mid-point check in, I made it to this phase. I felt the need to make edits to create a more cohesive piece both visually and stylistically, which are reflected later below.
After making changes to the drawing in Adobe Illustrator, I then went back into Adobe Character Animator to finish animating my character.
Using the motion capture technology from the program, I performed as my character and provided the voice as well. To add a sense of narrative, I decided to incorporate an interactive dialogue, inspired by the animated pre-school shows I watched growing up.
