2100 IS COMING

What will 2100 look like? How will sea level rising impact future generations? Can we trust science to help us protect our world?

"2100" is a 44 minutes documentary that explores Sicily, this beautiful island in Italy in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, analysing how sea level variations impacted this area throughout millions of years, and how Humanity adapted to changes.

ARE YOU READY?

What does Nature do for us, and what do we do for Nature? Explore with us natural treasures, to protect and pass on to future generations, the generation of 2100.

When Fabrizio Antonioli, professor and researcher at ENEA with a passion for documentaries, and Thalassia Giaccone, expert diver and geologist, met for their first dive together, little did they know that their love for Nature and Sicily would have taken them all over the island to explore, film and document not only the geological wonders, but also the natural and man-made treasures that this amazing territory offers. 'Sottosopra", "upside-down" in Italian, was the first idea that they experimented with, and produced a trailer where they showcased the sites they explored. But when screenwriter Martina Camatta saw the material, and the incredible expertise the two protagonists could offer in terms of climate change and natural resources, she proposed a different idea: 2100, the year science uses for the projections of data to simulate future environmental scenarios. And so the documentary "2100" was born, where Fabrizio's expertise on sea level variations in time highlights processes to keep in mind when talking of sea level variations. Where Thalassia's knowledge of underwater life, and the contributions of many experts who kindly shared their stories and knowledge in the film, shows us a picture of the past and the presnt to understand the future.

DOCU-IDENTITY

Or: choosing a graphic style for 2D & 3D animations.

Before the actual editing of the documentary, we studied and developed a graphic style.
The main color we used is blue as the Ocean and the fonts are simple and solid as Earth.
3D COMPOSITING

Developing the 3D inserts.

Fundamental for the documentary was the insert of some footage. Since the needed footage did not exist yet, we decided to create it in 3D. Professors and geologists helped us developing 3D scenarios giving us reference and detailed reports about Earth's and Oceans' conditions.

ANIMATED INFOGRAPHICS

Global warming in a (2D and 3D) nutshell.

To make interviewed professors' and specialists' words more effective, we developed and animated some infographics, both in 2D and 3D style. The aim was to make clear the danger that everyone of us is going to face in the future.

FINAL TOUCHES

Do not forget colors, sounds and the right output.

To make the documentary the best version of itself, we worked on color correction and color grading; then we fixed the live audio and added sound effects, mixing all of them with music.
Last but not least, we decided to export the film in a versatile output: a 25fps h264 @ fullHD.

TRAILER-MAKING

2 minutes that are going to make you feel insecure about future.

To spread and submit the documentary to events and festivals, a teaser trailer was made. There you can find some beautiful landscapes surrounding Sicily and the awareness that we could lose those landscapes for ever.
