YCN Fedrigoni Calendar 2015

Fedrigoni Calendar Brief _

The task was to create a desk calendar that was aesthetically appealing, yet remained functional for Graphic Designers.

Initial Reaction _

Due to the high quality of paper that Fedrigoni supply, I realised early on that this would have to become the focus, with minimal distractions.

When completing early research into not just beautiful designs but how it will function, I took great care when asking professional designers, what type of calendar they would not actually use. The outcomes were things that are overcrowded, too much of a gimmick and items that encourage nothing. These where the area’s I attempted to avoid.

The Concept _

I wanted to create a calendar that had an engaging date system, which was slightly different from the normal, yet still remained functional and appealing for the target audience.

Therefore I have created a different style of calendar system which works as a daily and monthly calendar simultaneously. The calendar has been created so that the user can write a short sentence about their day; this can be creative or personal; and would allow the person to revisit that information every month, building up over the year.

This can then enable the user to be able to see any trends within their own lifestyle; anything from their different moods, thoughts or a record of achievement as well as aims to work towards. At the end of the year they will have a complete record of how their year has been, allowing them to be self aware of their behaviour, goals and achievement.

For Fedrigoni _

For Fedrigoni this means that the different paper stock/weights would not be thrown away, ripped or ignored, but recycled every month so it is seen continuously throughout the year and kept safely just as other work records are.

The Designs _

There are a total of 31 cards , which all use the same grid system. However each individual card has a different layout for the written date, none are the same. The cards are double sided sided with 6 months on each side which is ideal for flipping round.

At the bottom of each card it shows the paper stock name and weight. Also included is a separate stock card to be able to see the comparisons.

Different printing methods were used to accentuate the paper stock; for example; using colour on colour and Foiling, which have been added subtly not to detract.

How it works _

The calendar system works by have a stack of 31 cards that represent days in a month. On each card there is every month equalling the year (six months on each side).

Step one: Start at the beginning of the calendar on the first and write in the month appropriate (e.g January).
Step two: At the end of the day place the first card to the back revealing the next day, repeat writing in appropriate month (e.g January) for all cards.
Step three: Start the next month again from the first card, where you are able to view what you have written the previous month.
Step four: continue this throughout the year flipping the cards round at six months and
appreciate all your own content.
