« Pumpkin plushie » was my first object design project.

Inspired by the Amuseable Jellycat collection, I wanted to make an eco-friendly patchwork stuffed toy with different velvet textures.

After choosing the design, I drew a diagram, consisting of 8 simple velvet pieces in almond shape sewn together, held by a stem and a button, on top and under, linked by a strong string to each other to keep the shape of the pumpkin.
For the fabric, I found some velvet couch samples all in different textures and shades of orange, a scrap of beige suede for the stem and classic stuffing.

First, I sewed a coton scraps prototype. Then I move on to the final project, which turned out great and how I planed.

Velvet for furnitures has a lining glued on the inside, it makes it thicker and stronger. I knew it would be the perfect fabric to make an organic shape for a pumpkin, creating natural folds.
Folded suede, gives a sturdy and yet velvety touch, perfect for the stem , it might be a detail, but it needed to be as soft as the rest.
