Huntington Theatre

The Brief
Selbert Perkins Design (SPD) was contacted by Bruner/Cott Architects on behalf of the Huntington Theatre company to help design a suite of digital signage on the outside of the building in conjunction with a new tower block being built next door. I was brought on the project to help create visualizations of the design options. In 2018 the project was canceled as the group constructing the tower block backed out.
The Design
In 2020, again Bruner/Cott reached out to SPD for help designing wayfinding, donor, and digital signage for the theatre renovation, which continued on without the tower block addition. This time I worked under the creative director on the design of the wayfinding signage as well as the continued visualization of the exterior of the building. I also became the project manager and main point of contact for the project.
The theatre went through a series of concept ideas around their signage system, but ultimately settled on a Glass & Brass approach in the front of house, and a Glass & Steel style for the back of house.
We also took them through a complete overhaul of their restroom signage as they shifted to individual stalls using the best research sources answers to the on-going problem.
The Solution
The images here show only a few of the signs fully installed at the Huntington Theatre. Although their grand opening has taken place, the final signage is still in progress in a few different areas.
