Walking the Haute Route in the heatwave of summer 2022 inspired me to do several drawings about the geomorphology of the area. The ending point of the trekking tour was the Matterhorn. Looking at the almost snow free peak, I started this illustration about the genesis of a Karling - a mountain that has been eroded from all three sides by glaciers.
A couple of days later, the Matterhorn was snow free for the first time in summer. Sticking out of the sky like a black tooth it could turn into a symbol of climate change with the new enhanced danger of rockfalls to mountaineers.
