Marco Zannini's profile

Rochester International Jazz Festival

This Identity for the Rochester international Jazz festival (or RIJF) is designed to convey the vibrant excitement that thousands of people bring to the city during the days of the event.
I wanted it to be simple and truly adequate, it had to be jazzy but not noisy, dynamic yet structured.
The three color palette works great on both prints and screens, the hierarchy in the name is achieved through maximum contrast and is usable on dark or bright backgrounds.
45° inclination coupled with superimposed type and a very vibrant color chord achieves the goal pretty well, while a modular grid keeps everything structured and sleek.

Stationery
Events schedule. The shows had to be divided by: day, hour, theatre, entrance fee.  Concerts are divided by days and arranged in chronological order. The color coded structure helps the user in order to find quickly and easily the desired information.
The foldable brochure opens 3 times: first you see the map, then you open to the events schedule, and finally, when you unfold it completely, the big poster on the back is revealed.
Shows book, A6 spreads, softcover.
Packaging for the compilation.
Entry Pass.

I wish to thank Massimo Vignelli, who was design consultant for this project and who taught me the importance of structure and adequateness, his passion for design and his principles will be my guiding light through all my working life.
