Scarcity Vase
A prayer before every meal. A way to give recognition and connect to God, as thanks
for the meal provided. I’ve come to realise the importance of grounding myself before a meal, taking a moment to be grateful for being fed and the journey the food underwent.
This vessel is designed to give the individual a moment of grounding and clarity of body before eating. The form of the vase represents the human body. Repeated forms of the handles emphasises the emptiness a malnourished body experiences. As the user grasps the vessel, the gaps between handles are filled by their fingers, the diner meditating on nourishment metaphorically and physically.
Throughout this investigation, I was intrigued on the concept of the handle and its
functionality. Digitally rendered on AutodeskFusion360 3d printed model, the form would be slipcast, handles individually affixed.
I found ideas of circularity and functionality permeated the designs, like prayer that creates a metaphysical cycle of energy between food and individual; is prayer a function or ornamental?
