Fall 2013, UNL enactus opened a new coffee shop in Jorgenson Hall, which is the physics department building. So the coffee shop's name and theme was asked to reflect physicis concept. The physics department decided to name the shop Ground State Cafe.
After the shop name being decided, I started to learn about the concept, ground state, In order to design the logo that visually represents the physics concept, and our team personality: energetic, dedicated, young, and fun to be with.
In case you don't familiar with the concept, and just want to save you the trouble go to Wikipedia, here's what I've learned:
The ground state of a quantum mechanical system is its lowest-energy state; the energy of the ground state is known as the zero-point energy of the system. An excited state is any state with energy greater than the ground state.
One of the example is aurora. Auroras result from emissions of photons in the Earth's upper atmosphere (above 80 km ), from ionized nitrogen atoms regaining an electron, and from oxygen and nitrogen atoms returning from an excited state toground state.
Our client provided me a diagram to help me understand the concept. And they also drafted a design they have in mind.
