PACKAGING DESIGN: MADONNA
For this package design, I wanted to achieve something that not only represented Madonna, but could actually sell to her clientele.

I deducted that Madonna's primary audience is now middle aged. They've enjoyed partying and alcohol, but are now suffering the effects of that lifestyle. They need an appealing alternative that gives them a similar experience without the negative consequences.

More than 1 in 3 Americans are prediabetic, and alcohol is a huge trigger for blood sugar spikes that create insulin resistance. As someone who doesn't care for alcohol, I took the opportunity to design a beer in Madonna's tone-of-voice that's non-alcoholic.
Madonna's "Like a Virgin" album cover was the inspiration for my design. I really liked the way the sepia tone meshed with the sexual imagery to make something romantic.
I analyzed the album cover, taking colors directly from the image itself to create a palette. I was also able to figure out the exact font used for "madonna," Centaur in lower case.
I started sketching out what I wanted to accomplish, which was a simple yet elegant package design for both the bottles and the 6-pack caddy. Unfortunately, I bit off more than I could chew with the caddy and had to scrap the idea in favor of just using the bottle.
I designed the label in Illustrator and created a mockup using photoshop so I could see how it looked on a bottle. I didn't end up using Centaur for the font because it really didn't look right with the rest of the label. I used an all-caps serif font instead.
For my final piece, I was inspired to do a full-page magazine ad with negative space to ad drama. I opted to use only one bottle because multiple bottles didn't feel quite right with the branding and label design.

I added a rose to balance the bottom of the ad, but not just for the visual aesthetic. Madonna is known for using religious symbols and imagery in her art. A rose without thorns is a Christian symbol of the Virgin Mary (see what I did there?).

In the spirit of negative space in magazine ads, I added one short piece of copy: "For the very first time." Not only is it a lyric from the song that the branding is based on, it also communicates that this is the debut of a new product.
