Rationale
My selected artist model that remains the basis of my composition is UK Illustrator, Billy Bogiatzoglou aka Billelis. His style is self-described as being a “colourful graphical explosion” which is effectively articulated through a collaboration project Billelis executed – The Nature of the Beast. This works is formulated greatly in overindulgences such a fine detail and bold attentions to specific regions of the composition. These detailed paths add a sense of heightened drama and draws motion from one point to another across the illustration. It quite successfully demands attention to these sections especially the bold, sometimes harsh, strokes. The success of this particular illustration is that Billelis is able to control his audiences’ eye and lead them to a more emphasised area of the composition through the use of thick-guided line.
In this success I attempted to apply this concept of guiding the eye towards the importance of my Stallion illustration. In this case, I’d desired the definition of lush as being quite an elegant yet forceful and demanding essence. So in order to demonstrate that primary thought, and engage a sense of delicate presence, it was up to the notion of placing significant focus on the mane and tail. The strokes needed to be quite fine in some places yet thick and distinct in another. Again, it was about controlling the significances within the illustration.
