Doll Planetarium is a new series of commission paintings I recently created for doll collectors. My clients provide a favorite photo of the doll that means the most to them. I create portrait paintings of these unique and meaningful dolls to record the precious emotional connection between the doll owners and them.
The purpose of portrait paintings is to leave records of people’s appearances. People’s facial features are ever-changing because of their age and mood. That’s why capturing a moment in one’s life is meaningful.
However, the adorable appearances and perfect smiles of dolls never change. My art practice is a mixture of still life and portraits. I aim to turn these externally lifeless models into internally living objects. I focus on capturing their subtle expressions as if they could talk with their gem-like eyes.
Now I am working on other 4 doll portrait commissions, and I will publish them once they are finished.
