There are more than 250,000 people with profound hearing loss in Hungary, who often face barriers to accessing a cultural programme in addition to the challenges of everyday life. Vodafone's new campaign aims to make the experience of theatre accessible to hearing-impaired audiences.
How can we tackle the problem that hearing impaired people are often unable to enjoy theatre? Mouth-to-mouth reading in a theatre environment is not a good solution, and the various accessibility solutions are either very expensive or require a compromise from the audience. Therefore, we looked for a device that is accessible to almost everyone, does not require a large investment on the part of the theatre and makes the play fully understandable and enjoyable for hearing impaired audiences. The solution is simpler than you might think: the smartphone.
The viewer places their phone in an adjustable holder on the seats, sets it at eye level, connects to Vodafone's dedicated theatre wifi network and the real-time, performance-timed subtitling begins.

Magyarországon több mint 250 000 súlyosan hallássérült ember él, akik a hétköznapi élet kihívásai mellett gyakran akkor is akadályokba ütköznek, ha egy kulturális programra szeretnének eljutni. A Vodafone új kampányának célja, hogy a hallássérült nézők számára is elérhetővé tegye a színházi előadások élményét.
Hogyan tudnánk megoldani azt a problémát, hogy a hallássérült nézők legtöbbször nem tudják élvezni a színdarabokat? A szájról olvasás színházi környezetben nem jó megoldás, a különböző akadálymentesítési megoldások pedig vagy nagyon drágák vagy kompromisszumot kívánnak a nézőktől. Ezért kerestünk olyan eszközt, ami sokak számára elérhető, nem igényel nagy beruházást a színház részéről és teljes mértékben érthetővé és élvezhetővé teszi a darabot a hallássérült nézők számára. A megoldás egyszerűbb, mint gondolnánk: az okostelefon.
A néző a székekre helyezett állítható tartóba helyezi a telefonját, szemmagasságba állítja, rácsatlakozik a Vodafone dedikált színházi wifi-hálózatára és máris elindul a valós időben előadáshoz időzített feliratozás.
