UHN Toronto Hospital Tunnels Beautification

UHN Toronto Hospital Tunnels
Beautification

This charity project shows the beautification of the UHN tunnels of the hospitals of Toronto, Canada. These underground tunnel system connects Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto General Hospital & Sick Kidz Hospital.
They are used mostly to transport patients.

Stefan Sagmeister asked me to create with him this new visual experience for everybody who is transpassing these tunnels.

Vision

We knew from beginning on that we want to have simple creations
that emphasize the mood when being in the tunnels.
Simple shapes, happy colours and a little storytelling to explore
and experience this space.

Colors

The colours are inspired and taken by the amazing landscapes
Canada has to offer.

Wayfinding

The simple wayfinding is translated into a “mascot”.
It shows the underground tunnel system and it´s areas:

Toronto General Hospital = Eye
Mount Sinai Hospital = Bird
Sick Kidz Hospital = Flower, Butterfly & Star

The floors also helps to find your way.
They guide you to the three hospitals:

Toronto General Hospital = Red
Mount Sinai Hospital = Blue
Sick Kidz Hospital = Yellow

Storytelling

Throughout all the spaces you will find the Blue Bird.
The Blue Bird accompanies you through the tunnels.

Design

All the graphics are coming from the point of view of communicating nature. We wanted to think of the tunnel system as “fun graphic jungle”.

Before & After

Here some examples of the tunnels appereance before and after.

Additional Information

This project is funded by the Weston Family Foundation.

Stefan Sagmeister was the creative lead.

I am happy to have had the chance to contribute to
such an important and beautiful project.
