Data doesn't have to be boring.
That's the philosophy I took in designing this visual representation of Nintendo's console sales as of December 31, 2021.
I started by creating a series of vector illustrations of Nintendo consoles through the years and applied them to a neutral background of dark blue.
To show contrast between the sale of consoles and games, I represented each bar in light blue and soft red for visual clarity.

With Donkey Kong on the mind, I recreated a level from the original arcade game between the towering peaks of Nintendo's 3DS and Wii.
Then I brought the elements into Adobe Animate to bring life to this list of numbers.

It's said that series-creator Shigeru Miyamoto gave Donkey Kong his iconic name to convey the idea of a "stubborn ape" to American audiences.
To reflect that same ill-tempered personality, I animated him tearing down the works to complete the looping animation.
