'Eternal Steam', 'Örök Gőz' was originaly created for 36 days of type, not as an entry, rather as a self challenge, but the project itself quickly outgrew my expectations and I was unable to keep up with said challenge, only its lettermark title was ready at the time.
Months passed, before I could pick up the project once again. I finished all the letters troughout the comming weeks.
Eternal Steam is an axiom, because steam is not eternal. The concept behind the letters are; to capture the essence of a long forgotten, but undoubtedly glorius age and style, steampunk. These contraptions were built to last generations and thats how steam will be eternal.
The form of the letters were inspired by traditionaly casted lead type characters (serifs) of the victorian era often found on shop signs and in newspapers. Every piece is a unique digital 'sculture' with unique distinctive characteristics, still part of a whole cohesive picture.
The letters are realized as complex steampunk contraptions, using only wooden parts, oxidized cooper, tubes, wires, bolts, black rubber and occasionally sturdy old ropes.
Every piece is designed and modelled with care, as an optimized, game-ready subdivision surface model (subdivisible with multiple levels) all quads, there are more complex pieces in the set, sure, but overall I am proud of every one of them.
The letters were drawn directly in 3D space and built from incrementaly modelled pieces which are later merged into one.
They all have proper UV maps with quality optimized texel density and 4 PBR textures prepared for metalness workflow (Base Color, Metalness, Roughness and Normal).
