The Ghetto Made Me

The Ghetto made me is an ode to folk art, folk culture, diaspora, and the love of my identity. Poverty is the worst form of violence is something I think about often. Amidst the watering down of my culture, and the constant white washing, are spaces that are still true to the core. That's me and my art. Hardships that my family still face from here in Los Angeles, to Chicago, to the toughest parts of Guatemala City have molded me into the artist that I am today. Here's to those who still honor their upbringing and give it the positive spotlight it deserves.

This was illustrated feverishly in Procreate, an elite digital illustration application. The typography is an authentic iteration of the same graffiti I would spray paint in the inner city. The drips embody a creative identity that I embody today, hence Drippy Spray, my artist persona.
