Crafting Cultures | Systems Design Thinking

The following was a design project done during the pandemic. It was an enquiry and deep dive into the Indian handicrafts industry, and the impact the pandemic was having on the communities whose main livelihood depended on craft practices. The project is currently concluded at a proposal for a location agnostic "museum" - a series of toolkits that facilitate collaborative creation using handicrafts as a medium that would then allow the craft to be more accessible and understandable, that would in turn lead to their preservation and growth.
This project is definitely still in its initial stages; due to the timing of the project, the primary research was not as extensive as I would have liked it to be. I hope to revisit this concept and idea and build it further soon, as I see the potential of it to be an interesting mechanism that bridges DIY crafters and Indian handicraft communities, and provides a more inclusive common ground for creation and skill sharing.
