The Brief

Biogen contracted Small Design Firm to redesign and update the corporate entry space of their headquarters in Kendall Square, Cambridge. Small design then reached out to Proun who contracted me to redesign the space.

Design Process

Using Sketchup, Illustrator, and CAD files of the building I was able to redevelopment the area including: removal of some terrium bulbs, re-allocating space for the data-driven terrium installation to the left wall, and finally developing a case layout for a variety of awards and items.

Solution

Once the wall layout was finalized, I produced production ready files for the fabricator, as well as help conduct a punchlist. The final design was able to house 12 awards while still displaying the energy creation and consumption of the Biogen buildings.

Dramatic new exhibits at their corporate headquarters in Kendall Square, Cambridge celebrate the technology, process, and people behind this commitment. A kinetic sculpture simulates order from chaos; interactives provide information on the drug therapies being developed, the history of the company, and the people responsible for their success; and video interviews provide personal stories about lives affected.

Small Design Firm are an interactive design studio that specializes in information design, dynamic typography and interactive art. They write custom graphics software, build unique physical installations and create enveloping media environments.

Proun Design LLC, founded in 1999, is a Boston-based design firm specializing in interpretive exhibits. Chris Danemayer, principal of Proun, has been designing exhibits since 1989 and has an additional six years of experience designing for corporate and commercial venue.
