Hello. This is my work "Khúc Hát Cầu Mưa" - a children's book published by Room to Read. It's been a while since I drew for a children's book. So I want to share my progress of this lovely project.
First step, I start by rough sketching of the main character and some random notes.
Then I work on a demo of the color palette and art style of the book. As you can see this demo is lacking of a lot of things. That's why I need feedbacks from the Editor at this stage.
After getting feedback, I start to work on the layout and re-color everything as long as adding details.
Things I have improved: the flow, value, and character's expression.
When the demo's look fine, I start to work on other pages of the book.
I usually do sketches for all of the spreads first.
Then, I do the detailed sketches.
This is the color phase. In order to keep the same mood throughout the book, I color all the spreads at the same time and add more pages if needed.
In the final phase, I focus on details and complete every spread.
Finally, I send it to the Editor and have a cup of tea.
Take a look at some of my favorite spread.
Thank you!
