Ehsaas (feel the time)

Ehsaas, a watch for the blind. This watch works on the principal of the simple Braille writing system which a blind person is familiar with. It’s all about feeling the raised dots to read the time.

The watch face is made out of Electronic Active Polymer on which pixel circuits are formed to create the Braille numbers. A user-friendly elastic watch strap and Braille instructions on the packaging also assist visually impaired users.

One day, I was listening to Stevie Wonders, a phenomenal music icon of the 90’s who also happens to be visually impaired. This made me wonder about the life of the visually impaired and how it is difficult for them to do the daily things we do in our life.

One of these things is keeping a track of time, and this is the problem I chose to solve.
The obvious fact about time is that it can neither be felt nor be touched.
And how do we solve it, we make time tangible and let them feel how time passes by.
Now starting with the design of the watch, I wanted to propose a very minimal design that would make
the usage of the product simpler.
Introducing Ehsaas, the watch for the visually impaired.

Ehsaas works on the principle of braille writing system, which the visually impaired is already aware of.
To use the watch you double tap to activate and then slide to feel the time.
Here are some examples of how time would be perceived by the visually impaired and on top are the numbers in braille.
The packaging of the watch includes the instructions on how to use the watch in braille. So the person who’s buying the watch can get familiar with it instantly without any external help.

Thanks for watching!
