Packaging design for Shoei Helmets

PACKAGING DESIGN FOR SHOEI HELMETS

The starting point of this project was to create a packaging design that stood out from the crowd and at the same time saved space during transport. The packaging also needed to look good without any other appliance when it was displayd in stores.

During the project I noticed that almost all helmet boxes were square shaped. Helmets have a round shape, which gives a lot of air in the box. I therefore designed a box based on hexagons and squares to minimize the air inside. The box is fully stackable to optimize cargo space.

I got the idea for the shape when I was reading an article about how to improve cellphone coverage indoors by placing cell towers in a 3D pattern of hexagons. The shape fitted Shoei well because of their hexagonshaped logotype witch was highlighted in the design of the box.
