THE STORY OF A PAPER BONSAI
A Craft Project

We are surrounded by paper - from documents, bills, notebooks, newspapers, sketches and more...
In Italy, paper consumption is estimated to be equivalent to 2 trees per year for 4 people family.
How can we artists transform a material so used? We WhoStaresArt artists have been studying and experimenting with this material for months - looking for an ideal solution to recycle the paper that we consume every day, with creativity.
We are happy to share the results of our work with you!

Fascinated by the paper maceration process, we applied this ancient technique to the most common types of paper

Recycled and macerated paper - A4 120g sheets. Dilution with 50% / 80% cellulose glue
Leave the paper to macerate in plenty of water and then adding glue or chalk in different percentages to create a modeling paste : papier-mâché.

We recommend a water based vegetable cellulose glue. You can find it in liquid or powdered form. This glue mixes very well with the paper fibers, makes it resistant and dries quickly.
COLORS
You can get all the colors you need using colored paper, or you can add 30% acrylic colors to the white fiber to color the paste.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS
The 'Bonsai' represents for us a metaphorically process of transformation in which human can be co-creator with Nature through creativity.
And this is exactly what we are trying to spread with our paper recycling project.
