NUMBERS
Thanks to digits and Numbers we have been able to understand a lot more of this world, pushing what ever civilization is, forward. These apostles of our digital era serve us tirelessly, guarding our memories and secrets behind calendar dates, numerous PIN codes, account and phone numbers or security doors. Short rows of digits in phone numbers or addresses mark periods in our lives while a new such rises a new milestone.
In Numbers I use digits as the substance instead of bodies to paint portraits or important moments. A lot of our environment is numbers or is somehow dependent. This is an experiment in which 'reality' is somehow condensed into paintings.
Seeing characters, digits and numbers more 'alive' than most others do, I paint groups or "families" of figures. Portraying them this way makes them more "alive". The idea behind it all is also that mathematics cannot not come much further without a scholastic and spiritual understanding of what they are fore.
