ZAUBERTRANK
‘Zaubertrank’ explores my curiosity about a mundane, daily routine. Before partaking in the outside world, it is essential that I have my ‘Zaubertrank’ (a.k.a coffee). The preferred brewing method is always Moka pot. This is one of the oldest ways of brewing coffee and still one of the most effective when looking to make the ultimate espresso. Despite having a general understanding how this iconic design (created by Alfonso Bialetti) works, this process highlights how sometimes having a technical understanding of something and taking this process for granted, can be different from actually truly knowing the process. To some extent, the technical knowledge is accepted, yet an element of myth remains. What actually happens in the chamber when brewing? I imagine what it might look like when the boiling water rises up and pushes through the grounds. I never observe the moment it happens, but perhaps this is why I like to refer to it as ‘Zaubertrank’ (magic potion).
