Defragmentation

Defragmentation is a collection of works that attempt to unpack some of the intersecting themes and issues influencing diaspora life; framing diaspora as a population forced out
of its own country and living in exile with a collective memory or dream of the homeland.

"What can be said about the experience of growing up in a place that is not one’s actual
home; when that home is a result of forced dispersion? Both consciously and subconsciously guilt and grief are tied to the understanding that where you live is not actually the place you were supposed to grow in. The guilt of abandonment, of not helping others. The grief of leaving something behind, of having something taken from you."

A publication presenting an overview of Nora Adwan's latest projects created between 2019–2022.

Distorted titles, fragmented letters, interrupted phrases, a distracting typography treatment which accompanies the simple yet unorganised at times body text. Photography appears full framed when it comes to the exhibition showcases and in repeated smaller frames when it depicts each art piece's content.
