Fall semester 2022 I worked on a booklet layout project. Using an Op-ed "Do You Want Typography or Do You Want the Truth" by Erik Carter, I designed a layout with a 15 row and 8 column grid to help me organize the text to create a diagonal view that guides the reader towards the right. The finished size of the booklet is 5.5in x 8.5in

Using the Adobe InDesign program, I designed a layout to capture the reader's attention and guide them through the Op-ed essay. 

Here are pages 2 and 3 of the main pages for the booklet. The page layout is organized where the text is diagonal from each other. On the left main pages, the text is organized top-down, using the first 7 rows. The right main pages have the layout organized down-top, using the last 7 rows. This layout creates a diagonal text relationship and creates movement guiding the reader through the booklet.

Image placement for the left pages is below the body text and the right pages have the image above the text.  

The typefaces I used were Bodoni URW and Libertad. The paragraph styles used were header, sub-header, pull quotes, body text, and captions. Keeping in mind the type hierarchy, the headers used the Libertad typeface with the font style ExtraBold Italic. The header has a font size of 22pt with 24pt leading and the sub-header has a font size of 16pt with 18pt leading. Pull quotes, body text, and captions are in the typeface Bodoni URW. Pull quotes are in the font style Light Oblique at 13pt with 14pt leading. Body texts are in the font style Regular at 10pt with 11pt leading. Captions are in Medium Oblique font style at 9pt with 10pt leading. 

Creating the cover page was difficult for me because it was not following the layout like the main pages. The title of the op-ed is "Do You Want Typography or Do you Want The Truth?" and I decided to arrange the title so there are two questions. To create emphasis in the title made 'Typograph' and 'Truth' in upper case. With the 'or' I wanted to create emphasis on choice, so the word has 20 tracking and is at font size 45pt. The Title is in the typeface Libertad ExtraBold Italic. I added this recycling bin image to the front because they are pointing into the bin, and I used their positioning to point toward the right. This way the readers can be led to the edge of the cover and open it up.
