Joseph Iacona’s article ‘Below the Surface: Creating Hope Through Portraiture’ has been one of my favourites for quite some time.
But only having finished this graphic novel, did I truly understand
the import and nuance of Iacona’s words.

This graphic novel, ‘That झुनझुनाहट’ is about The Artistic Process
as I have experienced it.
I chose to use faces to frame this piece so as to play with the idea of portraying a process through the artistic form of a portrait itself.

The definition and meaning of A Portrait is often restricted to the image of a face- drawn, shot or edited- that reveals the features
and often mood/temperament of the subject.
and often mood/temperament of the subject.
I have attempted to break out of this by merging a variety of media- Ink, Pens, Pastels and Digital Tools- to elucidate my understanding of the process of creation: an idea that has revealed itself to me over the course of my years of making and creating.
Always having been apprehensive to draw the human face/ figure I had been limiting myself and by extension, the scope of my artistic enquiries. The metaphysical manifestations of art making are often side-lined as the physical artefact takes precedence.
This piece is an ode to those parts of us that change with every piece that we create; an acknowledgement of the world of meaning that this project has opened up for me, and a dedication to ‘That Tingle’.
