This is Isaac, he is 12 years old and about 5’0”. Isaac often gets made fun of by his peers. He is “nerdy” and just a little too passionate about this favorite game, a card game he learned from his eldest cousin. One group of boys in his school are specifically mean, calling him names and pushing him around whenever they think there isn’t anyone looking. As much as Isaac tries, he finds it hard to stand up for himself, as he is often outnumbered and the boys are able to spin the narrative in their favor. Isaac hates to admit it, but he is scared of them. He’s working on it, and he hopes someday he won’t be, but for now he tries his best to stay out of their way and to avoid conflict.
Here you can see him on the left trying to defend himself with his backpack, holding it as a shield. In the pose on the right, he is trying to shield himself with his body, attempting to make himself smaller and baking for impact. In the middle pose, he sits on the ground after being pushed down. I used the colorful rim light to emphasize the line of action on the right pose and to bring attention to his face and expression on the middle pose.
