Origami Inspired | Resist Dyed Textile (shibori)

Chanderi silk | 200cm X 55cm
I had always been keen to work on something which reflects my thoughts that I had gathered while wandering around and things that have made me wonder. It's a wholesome of thoughts about the existence of life and how they have changed and evolved us.
Note - This series is divided into 3 sub themes - TALES | DISCOVERY | SPIRITUALITY.
Each sub theme is then further divided into three phases of interlinked artworks.
Cannabliss - The god plant is the first concept of spirituality.

About The Craft
Craft of resist dyeing according to my perception has been in existence since humans found a way of dyeing textiles, since then many techniques were developed around the world in search of creating something unique. Techniques might have been developed by accidents or trying to control the flow of dyes or simply by resisting it with different materials. This technique of resist dyeing varies in different parts of the world which may be due to following factors - width and weave of textiles, climate conditions, dyeing practises, availability of raw materials, traditional draping of textile, and cultural diversity.

Design Language
Motifs and patterns of the above artworks are inspired by origami. When a 2D paper is folded onto a specific line also known as crease pattern it transforms into a 3D form.
Each theme’s 1st phase artworks consist of two halves. The first half motifs are inspired from 3D origami forms and second half motifs are crease patterns of the same form.

cANNABLISS - THE GOD PLANT
The idea was to depict the circular nature of evolution, how an element evolves from an atomic level to a tangible and visible form and dissolves back to its atomic form at the end of the cycle. Following up with the idea here I have tried to depict circular evolutionary cycle of a Bhang Leaf, As any form comes into life through a bond of many atomic particles.
The process starts when the atomic particles evolve and bond with each form that comes to life. Here is the depiction of atomic particles of many sizes and shapes going through evolution through change in form. And then something tangible is formed which is here not to stay forever but to complete its cycle of life and gradually it completes its inevitable cycle. It starts dissolving/breaking back into the sub atomic to atomic level.
These cannabinoids regardless of whether shaped in your mind, breathed or eaten perfectly fits into a series of specialised receptors situated all through the human body, with the major concentration in special parts which regulates thoughts, emotions, appetite, movement, and cognition. This essence depicts the evolution of the bhang leaf and how it merges with our nervous system.
