Icons for International Chinese Diaspora Conference

BACKGROUND & BRIEF
The Centre for Chinese Language and Culture of Nanyang Technological University provided an open brief where I was free to develop any type of graphical design for an upcoming conference, to which I came up with a set of icons as a means of branding and giving an identity to the event.

The event, entitled International Conference on the New Horizons of Diasporic Chinese Studies, features presentations covering 5 main areas—history, sociology, anthropology, cultural, and literary studies.

CONCEPT & DESIGN
The way the 5 disciplines branched out from a single root, the Diasporic Chinese Studies, reminded me of how a single white light splits into a spectrum of colours when passed through a prism.

The icons are designed using only triangles (symbolising the prism and change) and circles (symbolising the globe and geographical points) only.
