7 Creative Strategies
For this project, I was instructed to reimagine a common, everyday item using photographical concepts in 7 different creative strategies: Combinations, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor or simile, change of context/environment, physical shape similarity, and material change/swap/focus. This particular project is meant to focus on the concept and the creative title rather than the quality of the composition itself. I chose to explore the 7 creative strategies using a balloon as my object.
COMBINATIONS
Combinations: "Weather Balloon"
Weather Balloon
There is no meteorological apparatus attached to this weather balloon. I chose to create my own version of a "weather balloon" by filling a balloon with its own personal thunderstorm to represent the emotional turmoil that can effect us even when the skies outside are beautiful.
JUXTAPOSITION
Juxtaposition: "Blown Out of Proportion"
Blown Out of Proportion
We all tend to blow things out of proportion sometimes. This is my reminder to keep calm, keep my feet on the ground, and not sweat the small stuff.
ISOLATION
Isolation: "There's No Point in Conformity"
There's No Point in Conformity
Who says we have to behave in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards (courtesy of Oxford Dictionary) anyway? Conformity is boring. Don't be afraid of being a square. Get out there and make some points!
METAPHOR OR SIMILE
Metaphor or Simile: "Lightweight"
Lightweight
Some people carry truly heavy loads. Others make a big deal out of nothing. "That's a weird flex, bro."

CHANGE OF CONTEXT OR ENVIRONMENT
Change of Context or Environment: " A Light Breakfast"
A Light Breakfast
For those mornings when all you feel like eating is a light breakfast. What could be lighter than air? Just be careful not to pop the yolk...
PHYSICAL SHAPE SIMILARITY
Physical Shape Similarity: "It's Just a Phase"
It's Just a Phase
This play on words isn't just a clever lunar pun. This composition represents the phase in a child's life when everything is magical and anything is possible.
MATERIAL CHANGE, SWAP, OR FOCUS
Material Change, Swap, or Focus: "When Kiwis Fly"
When Kiwis Fly
You could say "when pigs fly" or you could say "when kiwis fly" and give those cute little flightless birds some hope. Which they could use, because their chances of taking flight are not nearly as high as these zesty fruit balloons here.
