Butan are an African streetwear label with strong African narratives that talk to the past, present and future of culture, fashion and the spirit of the youth on the continent. For them, every garment is treated as a piece of art. Drawing inspiration from the cosmos, the Butan Space Range is striking fusion of Afrofuturism, cultural symbolism and cosmic intrigue. Let us show you:
"COSMIC INTRIGUE"
The Butan Space Range draws clear inspiration from African art and symbolism. The base concept was to showcase Africa’s fascination with simplicity and the cosmos. The timeless and futuristic look of the varied styles from Ghana’s Adinkra symbols, Mali’s Dogon aesthetics, Zulu Earring Art are fused with modern technological, mystical and cosmic design forms. This intriguing blend of energy and styles were an absolute joy to work with.
"THE MASKED VISITOR"
The Masked Visitor artwork is a fusion the classic “alien” visage and tech with traditional African mask styling. In this way, the amalgamation of these forms symbolises the profound connection between indigenous African heritage and extraterrestrial civilisations. This is underscored in the “real” Dogon mask and graphic mask fusion design. The Dogon people believed the Sirius star system was the origin of their civilisation.
