HISTORY OF NEMUNAS SANATORIUM
NEMUNAS. The 1970s triumph and cult classic. With an expressive stature and a head held high above the city skyline. Later forgotten and almost lost to Mother Nature. Soon to undergo a renaissance, to be resurrected and become a jewel in the crown of Druskininkai once again.
Since the beginning of it’s construction NEMUNAS was the first large scale building in Druskininkai. It was radically different. Brave. Visionary. Gigantic in scale, even by today’s standards. Sanatorium could accomodate 1070 visitors at a time. It was like the meeting point for people from all over the Soviet Union where they came to rest, heal, have a good time or even fall in love.
Legends never die. NEMUNAS has left a big stamp on the history of both Druskininkai and Lithuania. Obviously. However, it is not just history that cannot be ignored. It is also a feeling. And this building leaves an indelible one. Standing next to this architectural landmark, it is easy to feel its grandeur. Driven by nostalgia. And nostalgia is followed by admiration.
Real estate developer “Citus” decided to bring NEMUNAS back to life, converting it to private apartments with usual hotel and SPA amenities included. It is a unique conversion which embraces the beginning of the new real estate era in Lithuania.
LOGO CONCEPT
Logo was inspired by the unique shape of old NEMUNAS stairs leading up to 11-th floor, which will remain the same even after renovation. Monumental letter N symbolises the grandiosity of the sanatorium building.
VISUAL CONCEPT
The main visual concept is to use the style of 70’s artists such as B. Žilytė, R. V. Gibavičius, A. Tarabilda who were pioneers of the modernist folklore linocut manner in Lithuania and tribute it to modern brand.
Paying homage to their style and observing wood-carved signboards of NEMUNAS with a help of illustrator Lina Vyšniauskaitė we created a set of wavy linocut illustrations, both monumental and nature-like. Those illustrations will be integrated into all Nemunas by Citus brand touch points.
