This is my vision for a Mrs. Balls Chutney ad poster, that was done for my Illustration in Advertising assignment. I was greatly inspired by the gryphon on the label and I wanted to incorporate Eastern and Southern Asian design elements into this mystical creatures design. I based the gryphon on a Chinese Guardian Lion (also known as a shíshī) as well as the Indian mythical creature "Navagunjara". I also experimented with my own marble ink textures, juxtaposing it into the composition and forming a seashore for the gryphon to rest on - paying homage to the story behind Mrs. Ball's Chutney of a ship wreckage off the coast of East London, South Africa, 1852.
