The task of the exercise was to design a hostel on two floors of the abandoned office building Metalka in the centre of Ljubljana. The proposed design aims to provide the best possible quality of the stay.
People staying in hostels are mostly young people who do not need more than a comfortable bed for the night. Rooms are organized in a way, where the common area is organized within the access area – stairs, which in this way also serve as a place to socialize. They can be used for watching movies, hanging out etc., while below them, there are places for storing luggage. Shared bathrooms are located in the existing construction core. The beds are placed in sleeping niches hung off the existing structure above the common area.
The entrance to the hostel, the reception area, shared kitchen with dining area and bar with a small library are situated on the bottom floor. This area is open to external visitors, as well as the loggia at the entrance hall.
