Maza Kids- one of the zones in Maza Park indoor amusement park in Saint-Petersburg

History: customer turned to us with finished project of kids zone (we mean the game equipment), but this project did not foresee any development of entrance group, changing rooms, rest, bar zone. Also the original project was confusing colors and concepts, many things in it were done to check, it did not carry any aesthetics. For a better understanding of the issues we attach the original axonometry of the space.

The main task: To turn a half-baked, rambling and not fully thought-out project into a normal, child-friendly interior.

Our first step was to streamline the colors for the play equipment. We removed mottling from the walls and floor and muted the colors of the equipment (we had to choose from a meager arsenal of colors, but we got through it).
By changing the colors, we thought about the theme. It seems to us a very outdated tendency to make very motley and chaotic spaces for children, hiding behind this lack of originality.
We turned the space into a kind of forest. According to the standards for children's spaces, all corners must be safe. We designed cylinder-trees so that children would not hurt themselves even by crashing into them while playing. These trees were the most difficult element to implement because of the proximity of the play equipment and the abundance of different levels of ceiling communications.
The entrance, the bar area, the children's mini-cafe area, and the changing area are one space, each of which we have isolated in a separate color that somehow echoes the color of the play equipment.
The children's bar is a standard bar, with a contrasting low bar integrated into it for holding various drink-making workshops with the children.
The mini-cafe area, aka the area for birthdays and other celebrations, is done in plywood to calm down the brightness of the rest of the space a bit and provide a quiet rest.

We are convinced that children's areas can be interesting not because of the garish color combinations, although color is certainly important, but because of the clear structure of the space and interesting and understandable to children concept, including both large elements (trees) and small pleasant details (forest animals)
