ADVE3630: Proj 3 Site and Collateral Design

ADVE3630 Web Strategy & Design: Project 3 Site and Collateral Design
Our goal is to create an interactive map system with varying lengths of walks for both our target audiences and include more locations of interest to increase foot traffic and highlight the health benefits for the CCAD community in a way that is non-stressful and potentially exciting. We also want to feature the various businesses and venues with their own dedicated section on the site.
Research
Reasons We Like the Above Examples

Arena District - Map doesn’t function as well on mobile compared to desktop - clicking on a dot redirects to a separate page instead of giving information on the same page (could be frustrating for users)
DRAC - Has an obvious about page. The formatting of “Our Board” section could influence members section for Discovery District
Withlocals - Generally have a good design, filtering system may be useful for DD
Skyscanner - Potentially convert to creative location spots for students, or new areas to explore for faculty
66nord - inspiration for including images of Columbus along with text that showcases both impactfully
Dscoveryland - a mixture of illustration and photography. The site is complicated enough that it requires a refresh for different devices
Dennisberti - visual inspiration
Kern - scrolling function switches between projects, it doesn’t move the page. Visual inspiration
Menada Winery - color scheming option
G-uld - Mixture of events, imagery, and texture

Persona
Persona:

CCAD Student Body- Main Audience
Young twenty somethings who love to explore. They just moved to the big city, they want to get out and see their new environment, but they are nervous about getting lost. Typically they are creatively driven. You can find them drawing on the quad, but they would love to find more places to sit and create. The new student body has also never been on their own before. This makes them nervous to go out, but this little part of them is too curious to sit at home.

CCAD Staff & Families- Secondary Audience
These audience members aren’t new to Columbus. Typically, they’ve been living here for at least a couple years now, and they know what the Discovery District holds. But what they do want is to start stretching their legs during their lunch break. It’s tiring teaching all day! To get their energy back up, the idea of getting off campus and walking around is super appealing.
Expectation:
The expectation for site usage was a clear way to understand the site's purpose and to explore through Columbus.

Frustration:
There was confusion on the intentions and purpose of the current site. Some of the labelling and imagery is misleading or doesn't incite further exploration of the page. The map feels useless and unhelpful for navigation and discovering different places. The theming (nautical and octopus usage) didn't fit the page and overall added into the confusion of the site.
Preliminary Work
Based off of the original color pallete located on the website, we added one extra green to help give our side-page a more earthy feel to pair along with the "wellness" of the prompt.
Sketches
After all of the preliminary research and sketches had been done, we moved into designing. Below is our first pass at designing the layouts!
In-Progress Work
Closeup of the IPad version. It took us some time to figure out the best placements for buttons, color options, and how far up the map should continue.
Up close of the Desktop page. Eventually we bring down the size of the buttons and increased the size of "Locations". We also began to mirror the "Why Walk?" page's type treatment throughout the rest of the work.
Updated version of our mobile pages.
Collateral
Instagram reel for one of our collateral pieces.
Here is a half sheet of paper that would be posted around campus and businesses.
Here is guerilla marketing strategy. Chalk footprints will go all over on the quad to get people interested and to go to the website to see different trails.
