Information Visualisation

Project Brief
Information visualisation allows for the simple representation of complex concepts to make it more accessible to audiences. This project required a digital vertical narrative that visually summarized research of themes concerning the future of wellbeing, work and the planet. The visualisation aimed to present large amounts of information in a more engaging, understandable and memorable way.

Design strategy
I chose the topical theme of the future of the planet, more specifically the effects of food wastage on climate change. Since food is something that many of us take for granted and waste, this infographic aims to inform the reader about the reasons, consequences and solutions revolving around food wastage. Owing to the large amounts of research on this topic, this infographic centered around visually summarizing the research in a digestible way (no pun intended). Rotting food is not something many want to envision, therefore, the illustrations and colour remain fresh and natural so as to not deter the reader or disgust them. This is conveyed in the illustration style that utilizes basic shapes and silhouettes overlayed with texture.
Putting the type out on the table
The chosen typography is legible and its rounded corners suggest a much needed approachability as the topic and the facts can come across as discouraging. The main headings and statistics utilize the boldest version (Rubik black to be exact) in order to stand out and create hierarchy.

.
Digestible colours
This particular colour scheme was chosen because rotting food is not something many want to envision, therefore, the  colour remains fresh and natural so as to not deter the reader or disgust them. The bright red also helps differentiate important statistics that is classified are classified as more important, while the dark blue-greens set the background and scene.
