Jostedalsbreen - Glacier in Norway

JOSTEDALSBREEN
GLACIER - NORWAY
Jostedalsbreen is a glacier located in western Norway and is the largest glacier in continental Europe. The glacier has a long and rich history, and it has played an important role in the cultural and economic development of the region. Archaeological evidence suggests that the glacier has been present in the area for thousands of years, and it has been an important source of water and resources for the people living in the region. During the Little Ice Age, which lasted from the 16th to the 19th century, the glacier reached its maximum size and became an important tourist attraction. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Jostedalsbreen became a popular destination for mountaineers and adventurers, who sought to explore its rugged terrain and breathtaking scenery. Today, the glacier is a popular tourist destination, and it is known for its beauty, size, and unique environment. Visitors to Jostedalsbreen can hike and explore the glacier, and they can also learn about its history and importance through guided tours and educational programs. The glacier is also an important source of research and study, and it continues to be a valuable resource for scientists who study climate change and its effects on the environment.
So far, I have been to two glaciers: Fox glacier in New Zealand and Jostedalsbreen in Norway. The unique thing about Jostedalsbreen is that we had to cross a lake by kayak to reach the glacier. It was an incredible experience to be able to walk on a glacier. Big thanks to our guide: Gaz from Icetroll (https://www.icetroll.com/), which make climbing Jostedalsbreen an easy and relaxing experience. I remember reading a quote by an unknow, saying, "Glaciers are poetry written in ice. They are sculptures of time and monuments to stillness." Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
