Recently the new demo of Wukong Black Myth was released. By using new UE5 the 3D effects and motions are highly impressive. Can’t wait to see the final version.

The development of Wukong Black Myth catches the eyes globally. A a Chinese personally I think it’s a great opportunity to introduce our art and culture to the world. Although the team is paying efforts on importing many cultural elements in, I found that ONE IMPORTANT THING is still MISSING, that is the Chinese calligraphic design.

Although the Chinese character may not be readable for many non-Chinese gamers, it’s unique shape and inspirational visual expression should be shared to the world.

Perhaps it’s still under development and too many things need to be dealed with at this stage. Like many successful Japanese games I hope the team can consider the calligraphic / font design more seriously. Instead of simply using stock fonts / templates, personally I highly suggest the team to think of the designs based on hand-drawing, because calligraphy 书法 is something like the core value of Asian aesthetics.

Here as a piece of fan art, I tried the effect design of protection skill in this game called Golden Shell. This is based on my hand-drawing of Chinese Calligraphy.

最近一款制作中的国产游戏不但在国内，而且在海外也得到了相当高度的关注。虽然工作关系我已经没有时间深入体验游戏了，但看到这款游戏也不禁兴奋起来。这款叫“黑神话悟空”的游戏不但在画面制作和动作设计等达到了国际一流水平，最重要的是它可能会成为中国文化输出海外的一个非常好的机会。

这款以西游记为背景的游戏，人物、场景、故事、玩法等都可以看到制作团队在努力地加入中国文化元素，而且把中国元素融入游戏的手法也很国际化，似乎比较懂得海外玩家的视角和好奇心所在。虽然说是商业操作，但努力融于中国文化这点，我个人十分欣赏。一切不容易，希望团队能继续加油，期待最终作品。

在融于中国文化元素这点上，唯一比较遗憾的是现阶段对于传统中国书法字体设计上还比较欠缺，似乎都是用市面上常见的字体，简单套入而已。我作为一个书法字体设计师和书画家，现阶段感到有点可惜。可能现阶段要做的东西太多了，还没有到思考字体的阶段。

懂日本游戏的玩家们都知道，日本在很多成功的游戏里面都加入了手写书法字体设计。他们都是基于手写而且是专门为游戏创作的，非简单套用市面常见的字体。作为汉字书法本源的中国，难道我们不能做的更好吗？不要以为老外不懂汉字无法欣赏，在接触过很多喜欢书法的老外之后我发现，他们虽然不懂汉语，但对于汉字书法的着迷是远超我们想象的。对于老外来说这些古老但又神秘的符号不但是一种视觉魔法的存在（就像古埃及文字），而且是一种好奇心的激发。这正好是一个机会让他们主动去了解中国文化。

所以不要轻视传统书法在现代设计上的重要性，不妨大胆采纳手写书法，配合作品本身加以设计。

作为粉丝艺术，我简单创作了个书法设计，都是以自己的手写书法为基础配合游戏特点去制作的，临时借用了他们公开的壁纸和截图等作为背景看看效果如何。希望有机会的话黑神话悟空的制作团队能够看到，从而带来一些启发。

希望有着几千年历史的中国书法也能够借助这个机会，给世界一些冲击。
