The theme of the 2012 Lighting Guerrilla Festival was movement. We wanted our installation to enable two types of it; the movement of light, as well as the movement of people through the light.
Using fabric strips filled with lights, hanging from a construction above the bridge, we created three different ambiances along the length of the bridge - passing from the darker, heavier one at the foot of the bridge, to the very airy, light one in the middle. To achieve this effect, we used fabric ranging from sheer to opaque and different spacing between the strips.
The people crossing the bridge, as well as other movements of air result in the motion of fabric strips. At the same time, people that cross the bridge are moving through the ‘sea light’. While passing the bridge, people disappear and reappear between the fabric strips, which adds an element of hide and seek.
