The purpose of this project was to visualize typeface features and use them in a dynamic or interesting compositions. We used six typefaces with different letters for each of them, then enlarged and rotated said letters to display some of their defining characteristics. From there, we then arranged them into the six panel compositions that are displayed below. The fonts we had used were as follows: Stempel Garamond, Bauer Bodoni, Rockwell, Futura, Helvetica, and Platelet.
Here is the poster mockup of the second, and personal favorite, composition. This composition used Bauer Bodoni, a typeface resembling something from a newspaper, but also has its own presence.
Here we have Stempel Garamond, a typeface that has a "fancy" appearance or detail to it. The form of the letters gives the sense of calligraphy or some form of elegant handwriting.
As said before, this is Bauer Bodoni is one that resembles something you might see in a newspaper, with the straight edges and presence it gives. But, due to how it appears, some may consider it uninspired or bland, which isn't bad.
This is Rockwell, a well-rounded typeface, with perfect symmetry or line width at first glance. But, once you take a closer look, you can see that there are some differences in line width, giving it more personality when observed.
This is Futura, a simplistic font, with uniform lines and straight edges where they're applied. But, this kind of appearance gives it a more impactful or refined look, as instead of being fancy or flashy, it gets straight to the point.
Here is a typeface almost everyone knows, Helvetica. While it is generic in its lettering, it is still unique for its worldwide notoriety. It may be bland or overused at times, it is still a staple font that everyone knows.
Finally, we have Platelet, a font with a rounded appearance to all its characters, giving it a "child-like" feeling. The roundedness of the font also gives it a figurative flow from one letter to another, which adds onto the character of the font.
