HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?
This design started with recreating the Battenberg markings used by UK (and many other country's) emergency vehicles. It was moved to a black/charcoal colour scheme and placed in the background. I then decided to create a banner for 999 (UK emergency number) with the text "CALL FOR HELP" with an added strip of Police coloured battenberg markings.
I thought at this point it seemed only logical to try and make a very stylised wanted poster, but wasn't sure who/what would be my target. I went through thousands of photos in my archives and found a photo from a photographic outing I had with my friend Aaron in 2014 of him in a skull mask. I thought this fit a criminal and placed it front and centre, but also added a blur effect to make it seem like a blown up capture from a CCTV system. A headline of "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?" seemed adequate.
Of course, the public should probably know what this hardened criminal is wanted for. But I didn't want to make it too serious and so found some obscure UK laws that are technically crimes but seem silly, such as flying a kite in a public place, and knocking on a door and running away. I also added an Australian law of paying with a phone at a drive-thru. All of these are crimes, but I wanted to keep the light-heartedness of the design and so leant on the old trope of the Police loving doughnuts. This lead to the 'handwritten' additions you see on the poster!
