Sher-Dor Madrasah
I was born and lived in Uzbekistan the first six years of my life. Almost 20 years later I started getting nostalgic. And I remembered a beautiful square in Samarkand - Registan. There's an architectural ensemble of three madrasahs. The madrasah is an educational, spiritual and memorial building. And one of these madrasahs is called Sher-Dor.
Once Samarkand was one of the centers on the Great Silk Road. Many merchants traveled thousands of kilometers through deserts and mountains. When they, tired and exhausted, reached the city, it became a miracle for them in the midst of endless sandy steppes.
Therefore I depicted Sher-Dor Madrasah as an oasis.
Still there are two other Madrasahs on Registan square (Ulugbek madrasah and Tillya-Kari madrasah), so maybe one of these fine days I will complete this story.
