Tableware concept
The Coal Office, Coal Drops Yard, London.
Ceramic tableware designs for a second year BA Ceramic Design course project at UAL - Central Saint Martins. The brief asked to design tableware for The Coal Office restaurant in King's Cross, a collaborative food venture between designer Tom Dixon and chef Assaf Granit. I decided to focus on the history of the area and showcase the wonderful material qualities of clay. Using layers of black clay and buff stoneware that is reminiscent of coal seams, I combined reformed polished surfaces with raw faceted and torn edges. The project creates a deeper level to dining, immersed in a sense of place.
