When it comes to surfing, China is not the first country that comes to mind. But with a growing number of enthusiasts, the sport is slowly gaining popularity in the country. And Jiarui Yang, known as CC, is leading the change.

A professional surfer, judge and instructor, CC has been instrumental in promoting the sport in China. She was even part of the country's first national surf team.

She was one of the few female surfers who challenged Battle at the Silver Dragon(World’s first TIDAL BORE surf competition held annually on the Qiantang River in Hangzhou.

Now, she owns her own surf club on Hainan Island called Dynamode – one of China's most popular tourist destinations.

"With its long coastline and warm climate, Hainan is an ideal place for surfing," said CC. "And we're seeing more and more people taking up the sport."
